The growth of the motor car industry is the moat astonishing in the _Juiatory of industries in the world. In a little over twelve years the motor car business has jumped with such immense strides—with the veritable seven-leagued Loots of the industry—that the official returns from America, England and France are almost incredible. The ratio of cars to population in America is about one car to every ninety-two people! In England it is about one to every ISO; in Australia about one to every yOO inhabitants. In France, the one-time hub of the motor car industry, there aro 70,771 private cars registered, whilst, including taxi-cabs, \motor 'buses, etc., there are now close on 02,000 motor vehicles in that country. In five years the number of cars in France has trebled ; in America, in ten years they have jump fd from below UOOO to nearly a million. In 1012 alone it was estimated that 940,000 e irs were manufactured in the United States, an increase of over 110,000 above the figures of 1911.
