Cromwell Borough Council.

The fortnightly meeting of the above was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday evening, at 7.30 pun. Present—The Mayor (Mr E. Murrell,) Crs Gair, Young, Betts, Wrightson and Jolly. CORKESPON UEXCK. Outward was read and approved inward read and dealt with as follows : “ From Mr W. Fraser M.P. acknowledging receipt of letter regarding support of Bruce County Council remit about council business. Mr Fraser said it was not anticipated that a “ Local Bodies Bill ” will be brought down this session. So far the Government only indicates that it will submit proposals for the consideration of Parliament, and then the proposals shall form the basis on which a Bill would be drafted later on. However, the resolution of Bruce County Council had his hearty approval, and he would support it when the opportunity presented itself. —-Received. From A. M. Brodrick, stating the appeal ease of Fleming v the Borough was postponed until after die Appeal Court. —Received. From Town Clerk, Alexandra giving particulars of wages and duties of dayman and nightman. —Received, and a vote of thanks passed to the Town Clerk for his trouble. From Mr J. S. Dickie, Clerk to Vincent Hospital and Charatablc Aid Board, staling the contribution for the year ending 31st March, 1911, as computed at one-sixth of a penny in the pound on £7(5,382, the capitalized value of the Borough amounted to £53 10s, and asking for a portion of the above demand.—Received. Re i’outs. The dayman was present and made a statement regarding the carrying out of his work, and it was suggested that a faster horse would make it easier. After some considerable discussion it was decided to leave the work going on as usual. The question of horses being about the back streets was brought up, several Councillors remarking they had seen them and one in particular had entered several gardens. The bank book was placed on the table and showed a credit balance of £59 11s Bid. Accounts amounting to ,£1919s (id were passed for payment. The customary vote to the chair closed the meeting.
