[By “Goal Post.”] BANNOCKBURN v CLYDE. ( From Oor Own Correspondent.) The return match between the above teams was played on the Clyde ground on Saturday. Bannockburn had a weak team, in comparison to the team they play at home, but they put up a good hgut and showed plenty of grit in spite of the big score registered against them. At the call of time they were on the attack. In the first spell Bannockburn (Maroon) defended the northern goal and had the sun and a slight breeze in their favor. Beds kicke 1 off and Maroons were forced inside in a few minutes, An exchange of kicks between the backs saw Maroons try a passing rush, but hard kicking resulted in Reds forcing. The kick off was marked by Smith and play went to Reds twenty five, where Maroons were awarded a free kick and Crombie made a good shot at goal the ball just falling under the bar, a force resulting. Scrums and line-outs were the order, till Crawford broke away with the ball at his toe and scored a good try. The kick at goal failed. Reds 3, Maroons 0. From the kick off play hung in the centre of the field, * Crombie secured from a scrum and had a „ pot shot. Rods forcing. Reds now wakened up and kept the Maroons busy defending. A good deal of kicking took place between the backs, and Maroons were again forced. From the kick out Armstrong set his side going, but Crombie marked and found the touch. Half time sounded with Clyde 3, Bannockburn 0. On changing ends the Reds had the advantage of the freshening breeze and had the Maroons in trouble throughout the spell. From a line out Hall secured and dashed over, and added the major points. Reds 8, Maroons 0. Reds indulged in a bit of passing in which Armstrong, Gye, and Williams took play to Maroons corner, when Hall dived over and lost the ball, a force resulting. The kick out saw Robertson secure and score, but the kick at goal failed. Reds 11, Maroons 0. Matheson marked the kick-out, and Hall placed a good goal. Reds 14, Maroons 0. From a scrum in Maroons twenty-five Armstrong sent the ball to Williams, who transferred to Gye, who scored, and Hall converted. Reds 10, Maroons 0. Shortly after the kick off Reds took the ball down the field, and Hall scored a good try. The kick failed. Reds 22, Maroons 0. Bannockburn tried hard to score and several times charged down the field only to find labor in vain, as the Reds kicking was too good. Time sounded : Clyde 22, Bannockburn 0. Mr J. Holden controlled the game to the satisfaction of both teams, and Messrs Bruce and Holt acted as line umpires. The Alexandra Club defaulted to Cromwell ou Saturday. The captain of the Alexandra team wired ou Saturday morning that it was impossible to get a team, but hoped to play a return match later. At the last meeting of the O.K.F.U, it was decided to hold “Country Week,” but on a much less expensive scale than formerly. Teams of seventeen players will be taken to Dunedin from Mauiototo, Vincent, Combined Tuapeka, and South Otago, but only train and coach, fare is to be allowed, the estimated expenditure being £7O. Matches will be played between the first two teams and the last two. This is the programme mapped out so far, hut if the teams fall in with the scheme, they would almost - certainly be anxious to play the usual second fixture, losers and winners, as this will not mean any further expense on the governing body. At any rate the suggestion might be considered by the local sub-union. With a good lead and an excellent «, chance of premiership honors, the local players could profitably indulge iu a little more practice. Last week nothing was done in this way and every member should endeavour to turn up during the present week, to the usual practices. Next Saturday’s matches arc :—Cromwell v Bannockburn and Clyde v. Lowburn. Both these fixtures should prove interesting. Lowburu have not been defeated uu their own ground during the pasl two seasons, and arc likely to fully extend the Beds iu their coming engagement. Cromwell will also have (heir bauds full, and perhaps more, at Bannockburn, as the Maroons will be stronger than they have been for the season.
