Cromwell District Hospital.

A meeting of the Trustees of the above was held in the Town Clerk's office last Friday afternoon. Present —Messrs Ross (chair), Stephenson, Goodger, Ritchie and Jameson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Inward correspondence was read as follows : From Clerk C.O.H. and C.A.B. re requisition, stating that same had been granted on the strong represents,- ! tions of Mr Horn, who appeared for Mr Stephenson, who was unable to be I present.—Received. The Surgeon reported that during the month of May five patients were admitted to the hospital, that two remained over from the previous month, making a total of seven under treatment. Of these five were discharged and two remained for further treatment. He also reported that the contractor had finished the new buildings, laid down the drains, finished the septic tank, and got the water pipes nearly all completed. The Wardsman reported the collection of £] 1 6s 8d maintenance money. Accounts totalling £39 2s Id were passed for payment. The visiting committee reported that the cupboard space was inadequate. The wooden porch to the female ward wanted rebuilding in stone : several other matters required attention. The hospital and grounds now presented a neat and pleasing appearance. The report was received, and a discussion took place on the matters brought forward in the report. It was decided to defer the alterations to the porch till the builders were at the hospital, and that four ash pans and a wringer be procured for the institution. It was decided to build a linen press fitted with doors and a lock. It was decided to erect a new gate at the main entrance. Resolved that the secretary write to the wardsman to the effect that, after patients have left the hospital ; the maintenance money be collected by the secretary. The plans for the proposed new ! building at the hospital were laid on ' the table and pronounced very suit--1 able. It was resolved that tenders for the new building be called as soon as the specifications were ready, and in time for their being dealt with at next meeting; - the Chairman and Mr Ritchie, being appointed to deal with the matter. Mr Stephenson, in accordance with previous notice of motion, moved that in future the meetings of the trust be held on the second Friday in the month instead of the third. The motion was carried. Mr Goodger moved, Mr Ritchie seconded, that the salary of the secretary and treasurer be fixed at r £3o per annum as from 31st March last. —Carried. Resolved that the subscribers' list be published at an early date. The customary vote concluded the meeting.
