WAKATIPU JOTTINGS.
FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] If one is to judge from the number of persons who take the trouble to put in an appearance on the occasion of the annual election of school committees, it must bo painfully evident that interest in educational matters is diminishing year by year. At nearly every meeting in the Wakatipu this year, the attendance of householders was so deplorably small that it was a difficult matter to get the requisite number to form a committee. If this apathy on the part of parents in regard to the education of their offspring continues, it is clear that some alteration must be made. All householders in a school district that fail to appreciate the boon and privilege of having the local management of their school in their hands ought to be disfranchised in respect to scholastic affairs ; many thinking persons, indeed, would go the length of disfranchising such people politically also, for they maintain that they are bad citizens. Below are some of the committees elected for the ensuing year ; QUEENSTOWN. Rev. A. D. Mitchell, Messrs S. Dewar, A. Fraser, .1. Salmond, J. v. d. Walde, F. T. B. Walker, and J. M‘Dowell. ARROWTOWN. Messrs Allan, Begbie, W, Jenkins, J. Jenkins, M'Donnell, Toll, and Webb. CROWN TERRACE. Messrs W. M'Kibbin, Martin, C. O’Fee, J. Stevens, and J. Jenkins, UPPER SHOTOVER. Messrs Rogers, Scott, Stephenson, R. Stevenson, and R. Trip.
