HINTS FOR THE HOLIDAYS
The "Home Messenger" says :—lb is a mistake to think that children should have nothing to do in the long holiday*. It may be wise ab firsb, bub by the time the summer is half over tbey will be quibe ready for a change. Boys and girls are often fretful, discontented and quarrelsome when the only trouble is that they don't know what to do with themselves. Judicious parents always look upon the summer vacation as an opportunity for children to accomplish many things impossible during the rest of the year. A few lessons from a skilled workman will enable a boy to make useful articles with his own tools ; those interested in natural history will enjoy making a collection of the plants or rocks of the neighbourhood, while the boy who longs for a watch, a camera, a bicycle, or something else which his father cannot afford to buy him, may find a chance to earn the necessary money by doing some light work. Those who have accomplished something in the vacation will always remember ib with pleasure, and will be in quibe as pood condition to enter school as their fiiends who have fretted away the weeks. A vacation should never be a vacuum.
