Choosing a Chairman.
lii connection with the election of chairman of a school committee in one of the Nelson districts, the Colonist says the following process was adopted t( There wore two members proposed for the position, and with a committee of seven the result of the ballot proved to be a tie. The qnes(ion then arose how to settle the difficulty. One of the candidates proposed that himself and the other candidate should Loss for the coveted billet. This found favor in the eyes of at least one of the committeemen, as lie approved the proposed method, but suggested the candidates should go two out of three. Another member of the committee, being more for action, spun a coin, caught it, and held it between his hands, and called to one of the candidates to cry, saying that the question should be decided by one pop \ the candidate accepted the position and won, but he at once said the other candidate was the chairman. This, how ever, did not seem to suit all parties, so they appointed a chairman of their present meeting, who was to decide which of the twain was to have the position. After a few choice remarks, he appointed the candidate who had virtually lost on the toss.
