ODDFELLOWS' BALL.
LOYAL PRIDE OF KAITANGATA. The 26th anniversary of the Loyal 1.0.0. F., was held in Wilson 's Hall, KaiPride of Kaitangata Lodge, M.U., tangata, on Friday evening, .Indiging by the large attendance and the enthusiasm that prevailed the ball was a pronounced success. The Kaitaivgata Oddfellows had turned out in good style, bent on making their ball the event of the season. A strong committee had been formed' to complete the arrangements, and the general acclamation of the company as to the success of the function must have been gratifying indeed to the ball committee, of which P.O. Bro. Jas. T. Ramsay was secretary.
When the M.C's. announced- the grand march about- 70 couples took the floor. The march was led off by X.G. Bro. C. 'William)?, P. 0., and his partner, followed by other officers of the lodge and N.O.'s of visiting lodges. The spectacle was a very fine one indeed' as the couples 'wended their way down the hall. Some very pretty and becoming dresses were noticeable, and these, with the flowing sashes of the Oddfellows', and the 'bright coloured 'bunting streaming gaily overhead, made an exceedingly effective display. It is rarely that the evolutions of the grandJ march are carried out in their entirety, and the very large attendance of couples l as they wound 1 in and- out and spread themselves automatically for the first set completely filled the available dancing space of the' hall. The music, which was supplied by Messrs Yates (piano) and; Beath (violin), was as usual of a first-rate order, these two musicians keeping the company enlivened and the evening moving merrily by their repertoire of popular selections. Towards midnight a very refreshing supper was partaken of. and thereafter further dancing was indulged in until the gathering* broke up in the early hours of the morning. During an interval the local and visiting brethren of the 'Manchester Unity paraded the hall and, linking up in the centre, rendered their fellowship song. A word of praise is due to the M.C. 's, Bros. C. Williams, ,1. Thompson, and A. S. Penman. Their programme was a well varied! one. Fruit and cordials were handed round' at. intervals. A large number of visitors were 'present from Balelutha, Stirling, Bomahapa, and l Port Molyneux. 'All voted the ball a thoroughly successful one, and at the conclusion wended' their way home with happy hearts.
