REV. ALWYN EWEN'S RECITAL.
I The Oddfellows' Hall was comfortably Idled on Wednesday evening on 1 Ihc occasion of tin* Re.v. .1. Alwyn | Swell's recital, entitled " llotcli I'ot- ' cli ; u Night with the Kailyarders." I ill any were present from Wa.repu, Kuitanirata. and intermediate districts. Mr T. Mackenzie, M.11.R,, presided, and briefly and with a vein of appropriate humour introduced the speaker j of the evening. Mr Ivwen was warmly 1 received, and coon had himself on the best of terms with his audience, j He is possessed of mobile features, u magnificent voice, and a fine platform presence. In the selections chosen trom ('rociictt, Barrie. and lan Mac- ; lgrioii, the humorous and the pathetic, were skilfully intermingled. Now. the audience would be in (its of rapturouH laughter, now deeply moved, spellhovnd, tw with rare dramatic effect and pathos some touching story was letold.
