At no previous election has there been such an interest taken in school committee matters as was in regard to that of Monday night. Punctual to the appointed hour some 40 householders and a few onlookers had taken their seats in the room. The ball ■ was set a-rolling by Mr Greig being called to the chair. The Chairman shortly explained the object of the n-eeting, and then read the annual report of the outgoing committee, of which the following is a short synopsis : — " Your committee in resigning into your hands the trust reposed in them by you a year ago, beg to report that they have held in all six meetings, with an average attendance of 5^ members. The meetings have been of a pleasant character, there being but one aim prominent amongst the members — viz., the welfare of the school and the best interests of those connected therewith. Their relations with the master, Mr M'Glelland, have been of the most cordial nature, and the committee would here bear testimony to the very careful and painstaking manner (amidst many discouragements) in which he has carried on his work. Your committee would desire to express their gratitude for the very generous treatment they have received at the hands of the Otago Education Board, as early in the ■winter, owing to representations made by the chairman, they supplied to the school free of cost the very handsome register stove which you now see before you ; also on like representations they gave us a grant of L 6 towards the erection of a bathroom and sundry repairs at schoolmaster's glebe. Your committee began their financial. year after paying liabilities with a credit balance of L 7 iGs Id from' their predecessors, and leave to their successors a net credit balanceof L 7 19s lOcl." The report having been passed by the meeting, the most important part of the evening's entertainment — the election of the new committee — was then proceeded with.
