TAHATIKA.
More seasonable weather than that which is prevailing (February 5) could not be wished for. * The heat, which has been very intense, has made the crops come on with wonderful rapidity, so much so that in a few weeks harvesting will be commenced in many places. The yield throughout this district lias every indication of being a remarkably rich one. The crops of Messrs J. Thomson, Matheson, and M' Caiman would certainly astonish somo of our Australian brethren, and do their eyes good to look at. The outlook for big prices for the coming season is not very promising. However, most farmers in this part arc in an independent position, and will therefore be able to hold for a chance of a jump up. The small birds are playing terrible havoc 'with the crops in many places. They appear to attack the grain with most voracity when it is soft and in process of ripening. If farmers would pay more attention to winter poisoning a great deal less damage would be done to their crops. Last winter I tried some phosphorised rape seed with a vary satisfactory result.
