CLUTHA DRAMATIC SOCIETY.

0 The first annual meeting of the above society was held in the County Hall on Monday evening, when there was a satisfactory attendance of members, the president (Mr C. E. Thomson) presiding. The balance-sheet showed the outcome of the years proceeding's to be a very satisfactory one. The credit balance was L 4 6-s 4d and there were valuable and useful assets in the shape of scenery and stage requisites, etc. The only disbursment for a charitable purpose during the year was in connection with the widow of the late Ghas. Hartland for whose benefit the sum of L2O was handed over to the Benevolent Trustees. — The balance-sheet was adopted. Four new membera were proposed and duly elected. The election of office-bearers for the ensuing year resulted as follows : — President, Mr C. E. Thomson (re-elected) ; stagemanager, Mr J. A. Aigie (re-elected) ; business manager, Mr J. H. Inglis ; property manager, Mr J. S. Algie (reelected) ; secretary and treasurer, Mr D. T. Fleming (re-elected). On the motion of Mr Wood, seconded by Mr Bishop, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the officebearers for the past year, and the same was suitably acknowledged by Mr Thomson. On the motion of Mr i JD ;a> T j;a j^j^^n^ ) seconded by Mr Ingtl&'Jfi^iiiuWr^ornplirnent was accorded those who had taken part in the different performances during the yeajr. : — Mr Bishop returned thanks for the vote. In reply to .1 question by Mr D. T. Fleming, Mr J. A. Algie explained the causes, those who had been cast for parts leaving the district, etc., which had prevented the management getting " The ticket-of-leave man " put on before this time, as agreed in February last. A conversational discussion ensued as fo the selection of a play, and eventually it was unanimously agreed to put " The ticket-of-leave man" in rehearsal and get it played at the earliest possible time, the stage manager saying he could get a very good cast from the present membership. The meeting closed with usual vote to the chair.
