Clutha Presbytery.

The quarterly meeting of the Clutha Presbytery was held in the Balclutha Church yesterday. There were present — The Revs. Connor (Moderator), Bannerman, Waters, M'Ara, Chiaholuj, Allan (Clerk), Bett, Hendry;, and several elders. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. On the motion of the Rev. Mr. Allan, it was resolved that in future the Presbytery meetings be adjourned at 2 o'clock, so as to allow the Mission Committee time to prepare tbeir report for the evening sederunt. The Clerk read reasons for protest and appeal by Robert Gillies against the decision of the Presbytery in the matter of his complaint against the Key. Mr. Banner* man. Messrs. Waters, Hendry, and Johnstone were appointed a Committee to prepare ansvveis to the same— to be lodged at the evening sederunt. The Clerk, on behalf of the Committee re fhe Cromwell charge, read the correspondence which had passed upon the subject, and it was arranged, that the Committee should visis the district previous to next meeting of Presbytery. . The matter of the reference^ffeprrMthe Kirk Session of the Tokomairiro congregation, as to the interpretation to be put upon the lext in first epiatle of James, chap. V, 14(.h and 15th"verses, was next considered, aud upon which a long discussion ensued. Tbe following deliverance was ultimately passed— V That there seems to the Presbytery to be nothing in the passage warranting a departure Irom the usual practice of the Chupch in the visitation ot the sick." Mr, M'Ara reported regarding the proeras made by Mr. Stevens^ a student, and it was resolved that his trial discourses be heard at next meeting of Presbytery. The Clerk handed in a report regarding the records of the various congregations wiihin the bounds, and the same was approved pf. At the evening sederunt, Mr. Waters brought up answers to reasons for protest and appeal by Mr. Robert Gillies, above referred to. After a general conversation upon several matters connected with the Church, the meeting adjourned.
