Strategy for OS/2
Microsoft has clarified market plans with the operating system, OS/2. A new, high-end version that will run on machines using 386 and 486 . processors and called OS/2 version 2.0, will be available to users next year, and to software developers this month. At the same time, version 1.2 of OS/2 will become the entry point for the system. It will require at least a 286 machine with 3Mb of RAM (the initial,
current version of OS/2 requires only 2Mb of RAM). In the future, however, the memory requirement of this version will be reduced to 2Mb. Version 2.0, a full 32-bit version, will be able to run multiple DOS applications concurrently and will support features such as symmetrical multiprocessing. Windows is to be marketed as ah entry-level environment for PCs with less than 2Mb of RAM. >'
