Porsche found unmarked

By

BARRY CLARKE

The $200,000 Porsche stolen from Lyttelton wharf turned up at the week-end — without a scratch. The car was found by the police abandoned on a back road near Rangiora on Saturday afternoon. It was stolen 24 hours earlier and had been the focus of a

helicopter search by the owner of a car yard, Mr Phillip Mills. Mr Mills said the car had clocked up 30km and had probably been dumped by joyriders when it ran out of petrol. A bus driver had earlier seen the Porsche 928 S 4 being driven along Marshland Road.

“There’s not a mark on it. It could have gone into the showroom today,” Mr Mills said. The car had been shipped from Auckland on the Pacifica ship the Spirit of Freedom. It had been left on the wharf with the keys in the ignition. Mr Mills has spoken to the shipping company about its security arrangements.
