Wounds found on dead taxi driver
PA New Plymouth Wounds on the body of the dead Waitara taxi driver, Mr Te Tuiri Kihi, appear to have come from a sharp instrument, according to the New Plymouth police. Senior-Sergeant Paul Brennan said a post-mortem was completed on Saturday and Mr Kihi’s body was released to his family. The 55-year-old Aftian’s body was discovered by me police in
about six metres of water in the Waiwakaiho River, near New Plymouth, on Friday afternoon. Mr Kihi’s disappearance on Thursday night prompted a police investigation which eventually led to the Meeting of the Waters picnic site. The police received a tip-off early Saturday morning, that the taxi had left the reserve ffcout 15 minutes after a garbled message
from Mr Kihi at 6.05 pm left his controllers baffled. Senior-Sergeant Brennan said a team of police and civilian volunteers spent much of the weekend searching the reserve where Mr Kihi’s body was found and in an area at the Ngamotu Tavern. The police were also following up information from the public in. relation to the movements of Mrf Kihi. '
Senior-Sergeant Brennan said the homicide investigation at the scene where the body was found had been completed, as well as an examination of the taxi by D.S.I.R. scientists and finger-print personnel. The police were now waiting for the results of this examination. “No arrests have been made, nor are any expected in the immediate future,” he said.
