Franco Tiger justifies support

• Franco Tiger, despite suffering a setback after clearing maidens at Forbury Park last month, had little trouble justifying his favouritism in the Pepsi Cola Mobile Pace last night. After racing keenly in the trail for Gavin Ryder, Franco Tiger was eased out in the open with 700 m to run and, after attending the pacemaker Mack’s Dream on the home turn, ran clear of his rivals to win by 1% lengths. Franco Tiger, a four-year-old gelding by the Prebbleton-based Most Happy Fella stallion, Bo Scots Blue Chip (1:53.6), is the third foal to race from the former N.Z. Messenger winner, Tempest Tiger (1:58.5), and her third winner. Tempest Tiger was raced by West Melton’s Kevin Ryder, who later sold the mare to the Wayne Francis-managed Addington Breeding Co. Ryder was given the opportunity to purchase Franco Tiger several months ago from Wayne Francis. Donnajean finished strongly from midfield to cut Farm Kiss, which had her chance after racing in the fourth line and working clear on the home turn, out of second by a head. La Chandelle failed to quicken after racing three back to the 700 m when she improved to trail the leader turning for home.
