Nat. M.P.s to join student protests
By
PETER LUKE
in Wellington National Party politicians plan to descend on their alma maters this week to show solidarity with student protests over the Government’s loan scheme. Representatives of the party that was so often the target of student protests in the more radical 1960 s and 1970 s will visit 31 universities and polytechnic campuses this week.
National is pledged to repeal the “graduate tax” on becoming the Government in 1990. It promises all young people an entitlement to financial support for a first qualification of degree. “The Labour Government has betrayed the students of this country, and students have a right to feel angry about Labour’s shift to user-pays education,” said the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Bolger, yesterday.
