Debris from jet found

NZPA-Reuter Honolulu More debris from United Airlines’ New Zealand-bound Boeing 747 was found yesterday by U.S. Navy and Coastguard searchers. They found an overhead luggage rack floating in the ocean 160 km south-east of Honolulu. On Saturday two intact passenger seats, a seat cushion and a 1.3 m by 2m piece of metal were found. A coastguard spokesman, Mr Keith Spangler, said no evidence of the missing passengers — six Americans, two Australians and a New Zealander, Lee Campbell, of Wellington — was found in the ocean. The jetliner was parked on Hickam Air Force Base near Honolulu International Airport yesterday and airport workers unloaded luggage from the cargo hold while investigators inspected the damaged jet . Debris hung from the edges of the hole and several rows of seats could be seen through the space where there were once half a dozen passenger cabin windows.
