I’m not one to gossip, but ... last week Debra Winger winged into Paris and bought $12,000 worth of one-of designer outfits for her 22-month-old son. She said there was nothing she likes on the American market.
After rejecting a number of proposals to make a movie on the life of the late Charlie Chaplin, his widow, Oona, and his nine children have given the green-light to Sir Richard Attenborough, having seen his sensitive handling of “Gandhi,” "Cry Freedom,” and “A Bridge Too Far.” So far nobody has been cast to play the silent-screen comedy star.
“Dallas” star Charlene Tilton — who has just returned to the soapie — takes her daughter Cherish to live with her when the show is shooting in Texas. “Some actresses can go off and leave their children at home,” says Charlene. “I just couldn’t.” Charlene’s character Lucy Ewing was written out of the series back in 1985.
A philosophical Marlene Dietrich last week spoke out for the first time in years. On marriage she said, “The only really happy people are married women and single men.” Hollywood gossip writer, English-born Sheilah Graham, died last November, aged 84. Now one of Hollywood’s leading television studios is going to put together a mini-series on her life. Sheilah had a very colourful life, romancing half the leading men in Hollywood of the 40s and 50s — stars like Leslie Howard, Ronald Coleman, and Errol Flynn. Bill Cosby’s latest charity is a small, private college in Atlanta to which he gave $2O million. Now, because of his generosity, the school will be able to double its classroom space, start a little research centre and attract top-notch professors. This is only one of many charitable causes Bill and his wife Camille have been involved in ... but my lips are sealed.
