Vivisection

Sir,—ln reply to B. Copp’s claim that vivisection is indispensable to medical research, J. Jeffries (February 11) cites medical discoveries achieved by other means. In fact, nearly all medical advances have been achieved independently of, and despite, vivisection, but have been falsely attributed to it by the international pharmacomedical syndicate and its financial dependants. Until the advent of A.1.D.5., cancer research has been the main recipient of public health funding in most “advanced” countries, as a result of the ably exploited fear of this disease. Yet since the first recorded cancer experiment in whicji dogs were inoculated with

“cancer fluid” from a breast cancer patient by one Bernard Peyrilhe in 1773, more than 200 years of lucrative cancer research founded on vivisection have seen a steady rise in cancer deaths, ietrogenic cancers induced by animal-researched “cures” such as Methotrexate, Chloromycetin, Cyclophosphamide and low-dose irradiation being a significant contributing factor.—Yours, etc., V. F. SANDS. February 14, 1989.
