Extra end win
On an extra end, Alan Griffiths of the Maitai club in Nelson, won the final of the West Coast Bowling Centre’s 75th annual fours tournament at the Cobden green on Thursday afternoon. Griffiths had an early lead, but his opponent, Ces Pablecheque (Westport R.S.) came back until it was bowl for bowl. The enthralling match, which lasted about three hours and a quarter, was the culmination of a tournament which started last Saturday
when 126 teams from Wellington to Wanaka started out Results:— Quarter finals: Alan Griffiths (Maitai) 12, Peter Webb (Blenheim) 10; Rangi Brown (Marlborough R.S.A.) 16, Richard Case (Picton) 13; Alf Currie (Stoke) 20, Earl Sara (Westport) 10, Ces Pablecheque (Westport R.S.) 15, Ron Robb (Motueka) 11. • Semi-finals: Pablecheque 10, Currie 9; Griffiths 15, Brown 12. Final: Griffiths 21, Pablecheque 19.
