Five charged in Pechiney case
NZPA-Reuter Paris French prosecutors have signalled they will not allow the Pechiney insider trading scandal to be swept under the carpet, swiftly bringing charges against a close friend of President Francois Mitterrand and four other people. Roger-Patrice Pelat, a retired businessman whose friendship with Mr Mitterrand dates from
World War 11, resigned from the board of the State airline, Air France, immediately after being charged on Thursday with receiving insider information.
Two other people were arraigned on the same charges, with a further two stock exchange traders charged with the more serious offence of initiating the insider information.
