Situations Vacant Situations Vacant SCIENTIST EXTERNAL ASSESSMENTS BUREAU Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Scientist with the External Assessments Bureau of the Ministry of External Relations and Trade. The position is with the Scientific and Strategic Section of the Bureau which identitifies, analyses, and assesses international developments of a scientific, technical, strategic or security nature that could have relevance for New Zealand. Assessments are usually prepared as formal reports to assist with the policy making process of government. The broad scope of research is best suited to someone with a strong background in the physical sciences, preferably specialising in physics or engineering. As minimum qualifications applicants should possess an honours degree in science, have had some years of relevant post-graduate research experience, and have a proven ability to undertake independent and original research. Recent graduates will also be considered. Good drafting skills are essential. The position is available immediately. Tenure is for an indefinite period, but in view of the long-term perspective needed for the work the successful candididate would be expected to spend at least five years in the position.
