Raphael Home
Sir,—The Ryder-Cheshire Foundation is grateful for your article of November 2 which records the visit to New Zealand of Major-General Ranbir Bakhshi, who for the last 12 years has given full-time, devoted and voluntary service as the director of its home, Raphael, near Dehra Dun, India. Under his guidance the home cares for more than 300 severely disadvantaged children and adults with unremitting love and compassion. The article does, however, contain a significant error. The Indian Army, of which General Bakhshi’s regiment was a part, fought with the British Army not against it, and for his own distinguished service he was awarded a Military Cross. I believe it important that this error is corrected. — Yours, etc., O. J. DRENNAN, Acting chairman, The Ryder-Cheshire Foundation (Canterbury). November 7,1988.
[The error, arising from a misunderstanding, is acknowledged and regretted. — Editor.]
