Western Bay destroyed

PA Levin The Zephyr Bay stallion, Western Bay, which stood at Sovereign Lodge Stud, Ohan, had to be put down last week as the result of a paddock accident. He was aged 12. Western Bay was sire of Bay Of Plenty and Cowboy Ben, both good winners in Australia. The best of his stock to race in New Zealand was the highly-promising Purdah’s Pride, winner of the Wanganui Guineas, the Levin Racing Club’s Ryder Stakes and the Triton Stakes at Foxton.

Another by him to show promise is recent winner Challen Bay. A more-than-useful galloper himself, Western Bay suffered from a dropped hip which restricted his racing. He had 20 mares booked to him this season and was halfway through these bookings.
