Soul singer held
NZPA-Reuter Augusta Georgia police charged the soul singer, James Brown, with assault, firearms and driving offences after they chased and shot at his vehicle, w’hich crashed into a ditch. A police spokesman in Augusta said the black singer, the self-styled “Godfather of Soul,” apparently interrupted a business seminar at a hotel outside Augusta on Saturday and menaced
participants with a pistol. Brown fled in a pickup truck and was halted by police after a 30-minute car chase. Press reports said Brown, aged 60, who won 44 Grammy awards in his career of more than 30 years, had been taking medication after recent surgery and was mumbling and incoherent during the gun incident. He was released on a $4OOO bail bond.
