High school investment seminars
“How can we get sound, impartial advice on investing without someone trying to sell us something?” The Adult Education Programme of two high schools are offering evening courses on in- '■ vesting. These courses are comprehensive, impartial, and inexpensive. They provide an opportunity for anyone in our community to find out •everything they need to know about investing •without feeling pressured ;by a salesperson. The schools have engaged Charles Drace, a
financial broker with Southlink Securities, to teach the investment classes. As Southlink is a full service, totally independent brokerage, this choice of tutor enables the courses to cover all aspects of investing and financial planning without any particular products or companies being promoted. The courses cover goal setting, how to save on insurance premiums, how to get higher interest, how to plan for retirement and how to choose the appropriate fund, how to invest with-
out paying taxes, how the sharemarket works (a leading Christchurch sharebroker takes this session), setting up an emergency fund, protecting income against loss, how to make sure you can get a mortgage, property market investments, Government stock investments, the futures market, etc. There will be a special emphasis on overseas investments as they are generally outperforming New Zealand investments at the moment and help protect us from any drop in the value of the dollar.
The goal is for each participant to be able to design their own investment plan by the end of the course.
The courses are being run by Cashmere High School (Mondays from October sth) and Hillmorton High School (Tuesdays from October 25th).
The courses run for five weeks (one night a week) and cost approximately $15.80. Please phone the schools direct to enrol. The phone numbers are: Cashmere 39129 and Hilimorton, 385119.
