New Compaq 386 PC
Compaq has launched a smaller footprint, 20 mega Hertz 386-based personal computer. The machine combines the Intel 20 MHz 80386 microprocessor with the Compaq advanced FLEX architecture to maximise the speed and performance of its 32-bit memory bus. Enhancements of the Deskpro 386/20e over the Compaq Deskpro 386/20 include integrated VGA and provision for a 20 MHz Weitek 3167 coprocessor which delivers two to three times faster performance than the 20 MHz 80387 Weitek coprocessor. Other features of the 386/20e include: a 20 MHz 82385 cache controller with
32Kbytes of high-speed static RAM; one Megabyte of 32-bit memory expandable to 16 megabytes; and one 5.25 inch, 1.2 Mb diskette drive or one 3.5 in, 1.44 Mb diskette drive. Additional diskette drives and a 40 or 135 Mb hard disk drive Back-up tape systems are available for models 40 and 110. (The model numbers denote the size of the machine’s hard disk drive.) Recommended retail prices, excluding GST: Deskpro 386/20e Model 1 $10,287, Deskpro 386/20e Model 40, $13,583, Deskpro 386/20e Model 110 $16,672, Deskpro 386 20e Model 60 $19,248. Discontinued are the following Deskpro models: 386 model 40, 386/20 model 60 and 386/20 model 130.
