‘Step forward for women’

The Labour women’s caucus has called the childhood care and education report released yesterday a “major step forward for women.” The chairwoman of the caucus, Ms Liz Tennet, said the report recognised the need for more childhood care at early ages. “But above all it recognises home-based care and ensures that benefits go to women working at

home as well as women in the paid workforce.” She said the women members of the Government had worked hard to ensure the report was written. The report took into consideration recommendations of the Roper Committee of Inquiry into Violence. Recommendations in the present report would promote a more caring society as well.
