Encouragement not subsidisation
Political reporter It is National. Party policy to encourage and support the productive sector, but not to subsidise and protect it, according to the Opposition spokesman on trade and industry, Mr Philip Burdon. He told a National Party meeting at the Bay of Islands yesterday that mechanisms would be applied to achieve this. The National Party’s vision was to do to the New Zealand economy
what Mrs Thatcher had done to the British economy. National’s post-Roger-nomics vision was an internationally competitive economy, strongly promoted and encouraged by positive Government initiatives. These initiatives included publicly funded research. and development, fairer trading practices and the provision of services designed to help solve business problems.
