Tight-class pacers’ race planned
By
ALEX McMILLAN
Tight-class pacers seem certain to be in action at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting at Victoria Park next month. The club has programmed a 3000 m event on the first night of its meeting (October 17) with a C2 front and a stake paid in accordance to the assessment of the winning horse. For example, a C2 would receive $2925, a C 3 $3OO more at $3225, through to $5025 for a C 9
pacer. The club secretary, Ross Dixon, said that he has had very encouraging response from several trainers with runners close to an open-class assessment, the event presenting an extra opportunity for them to qualify for November’s D.B. Draught New Zealand Cup. In addition, and in an endeavour to ensure a true pace in the race, the club will offer two $5OO “lap” prizes. They will go "i
to the runner in front 1600 m from home and at the 800 m. Dixon said that work is progressing well at Victoria Park after recent flood damage and is certain that the two-night meetings will go ahead without problems. Races from both nights of the meeting will be broadcast on Radio Pacific, the first time that the service has been available to them for a mid-week meeting. > •
