Advice to castrate ram lambs
The C. S. Stevens Group has recommended that farmers who intend supplying winter lambs next season should castrate their ram lambs.
The group’s regional livestock manager, Mr Neil Cornelius, said ram lambs intended for processing after February should be either cryptorchids or wethers.
Even some cryptorchid lambs supplied late in the season could display undesirable male characteristics associated with rams, said Mr Cornelius.
