Robbers took taxi
PA Auckland Two armed robbers who sprayed pepper in the eyes of a bank officer, and then tried to make their getaway in a taxi, needed money to repay a drug debt, the High Court in Auckland was told yesterday.
Mr Justice Chilwell jailed William James Stone, aged 21, for five years, and Darryl John Pascoe, also aged 21, for 4>/ 2 years on. a joint charge of aggravated robbery on April 18. They were also sentenced to two years jail each on a joint charge of aggravated wounding, and Stone for another two years jail on a further aggravated wounding charge, to be served concurrently. Stone, a spray painter, of Otahuhu, and Pascoe, unemployed, of no fixed abode, had both admitted the charges.
The court heard how the men snatched a bag containing $2356.64 cash, and 127 cheques worth $42,927.24, from Douglas Cameron Davey, aged 52, at the back of a Panmure bank.
