Leaving less than amicable?

Th«
te recent departure
from Radio Avon of its popular breakfast show host, Dave McGregor, appears to be less than amicable. The announcer left the station after his shift on May 13, with no public explanation. He refused, on legal advice,
to comment on the matter yesterday. Radio Avon’s general manager, Mr lan Harris, denied suggestions that McGregor had been fired. He had decided to leave, and had been thinking about it for some time, said Mr Harris.
Sources close to the station said that there had been no official explanation, even to staff, but suggested that McGregor had been asked to leave because his youthful style was out of step with the more mature image Avon was trying to present.
The station has made format changes recently, and now identifies its target audience as listeners aged 25 to 39 years.
Mr Harris announced yesterday that McGregor’s replacement would be Barry Ross, the breakfast announcer at 4ZB, Dunedin.
