Ampac amiss

By

DAVID McCARTHY

The immediate racing future of Ampac is in some doubt after his withdrawal from the Steadman Hurdles at the C.J.C. meeting at Riccarton on Saturday. Ampac has been troubled by a fetlock injury since falling heavily at Trentham three weeks ago. The joint swells after strong exercise, though he has not been sore on it. The trouble has been traced to a small bone chip which is expected to dissolve with treatment “We’ll see how it develops but if we have to turn him out for a month or so at this stage we might as well make it for the rest of the winter,” said cotrainer, Ned Thistoll. The stable fortune did not improve when Applicate, which has not previously fallen over jumps, did so at a vital stage of the Steadman.
