Barclays futures firmer
The Barclays share index futures contract cut its discount to the physical market yesterday, but still closed below the sharemarket indicator. The June Barclays futures contract closed at 1954, an 11 point discount to the physical. It traded in a 20 point range after opening at 1940 and closed on its highs. Dealers said the strength of the physical market was heartening, given the fall on Wall Street overnight. Yesterday was the seventh trading session in a row that the New Zealand market has risen Interest rate futures were slightly firmer yesterday in line with marginally easier physical rates. The June GSK contract slipped 8 points to 8723 while the June bank bills contract closed unchanged at 8445.
