Vo Rogue share sold
NZPA-AAP Melbourne
A Melbourne publican and businessman, Mr Gary Roberts, has bought a 20 per cent share in Vo Rogue for a six-figure sum.
The deal was clinched on Tuesday after former part-owner, Mr John Murray, flew from the Sunshine Coast to sign transfer papers. Mr Murray has had his 20 per cent share of Vo Rogue on the market for some time. He bought Vo Rogue out of a paddock and later
sold an 80 per cent share to Brisbane businessman, Mr Jeff Perry. • Mr Roberts said Vo Rogue was the best horse in Australia and was set to win the Australian Cup this autumn and the W. S. Cox Plate next spring. He said he would not be changing the methods of trainer, Vic Rail, or jockey, Cyril Small.
“I wouldn’t want to see anything change with him for the world,” he said. “It’s Rail who trains him perfectly and Small who rides him well.”
Mr Perry is also considering several offers for his 80 per cent share in the champion.
Last week a newsmedia identity, Mr Bert Newton, acting on behalf of another businessman and prominent owner, Mr Lloyd Williams, made offers of $900,000 and $750,000 for the horse which were turned down. A New South Wales stud that wanted to publicly syndicate the horse had also reportedly offered $1.5 million for Mr Perry’s share.
