Auckland Nissan plant idle
PA Auckland The Nissan car assembly plant in Manukau shut down yesterday as remaining non-striking workers were suspended. Production has stopped at the Wiri plant, which is caught in a wage wrangle that includes the Nissan Way work scheme recently introduced by the management. The 65 striking clerks, cleaners and storemen expect to be sacked today for failing to return to work yesterday.
The strike had taken a new turn that “definitely makes it illegal,” said the company’s industrial relations manager, Mr Bruce Owen, yesterday.
