Zipper Bay sets N.Z. record
PA Auckland Zipper Bay set a New Zealand record for 800 metres in winning the two-year-old race at Avondale last evening. The Swift Zephyr colt recorded 44.59 s in the Hawkins Construction Dash, beating Hie previous mark of 45.18 s set by Damocles, also al Avondale. Ridden by Peter Johnson, Zipper Hay led from the home turn to win by a length from Krona. Zipper Bay is raced by Jim Caruso, of Papatoetoe, in partnership with Takanini trainer. Trevor McKee.
