Town Hall savings
Sir, —The report of the Christchurch Town Hall Board meeting which appeared in "The Press” (December 17) included a statement which was attributed to me. In fact the quote that the Town Hall has made substantial power savings "largely because of the good deal struck with the Municipal Electricity Department” is both misleading and inaccurate. The Town Hall does not have any arrangement with the M.E.D. which gives a special rate to the Town Hall. The statement, as printed, was also not mine. The Town Hall has made considerable savings on power during the last two to three years through a combination of factors. The installation of an effective energy management programme and the expertise of Town Hall staff have been major contributing factors. The Town Hall is now recognised as a leader in energy management in New Zealand and any statement that this is because of reasons other than our own efforts has to be refuted. —Yours, etc., W. R. SLEEMAN, Town Hall Manager. December 21, 1987.
