Indecent assaults on boys

Bail was refused for a man, aged 39, who counsel, Mr A. I. R. James, said, voluntarily went to the police and admitted six indecent offences against two young boys. In the District Court yesterday, Judge Mahon convicted Donald Geoffrey Denham on six charges of inducing the two boys to do indecent acts on jim, doing indecent acts on each of them, and attempting to have ana! intercourse with each of them. Sergeant Max South said the offending took place with one of the boys, between February 1 and September 25. With the other boy they were committed between September 25 and 27. Terry Steven Sharplin, a trainee, was convicted and remanded on bail for sentence in the Rangiora District Court on October 21. Sergeant South said the offence took place at 3.30 p.m. on October 5. Sharplin attempted to push over several tombstones before knocking down two of them. Damage to the tombstones had yet to be determined, said Sergeant South. ASSAULT CHARGE ' A day after a warrant was issued for his nonappearance, a youth aged 15 made a voluntary appearance in the Children and Young Persons Court yesterday to face a charge of assaulting a girl aged 10 years, in Hampshire Street, Aranui, on October 2. The youth was alleged to have threatened the girl with a kitchen knife. He was further remanded to appear on October 22. ’ The warrant for his arrest was withdrawn.
