Cohen was depressed
NZPA Hong Kong Lorraine Cohen went through two weeks of total depression after being condemned to death in Malaysia, her lawyer, Mr Karpal Singh, said yesterday. In the Penang High Court on September 1 Cohen stood stoically in the dock as she listened to Mr Justice Muhammad Dzaiddin Abdullah condemn her under section 398 of the Dangerous Drugs Act. “But once back inside (Penang Jail) the seriousness of the verdict obviously dawned on her,” Mr Singh said. “She
was in a period of total depression for about two weeks.” He visited the Cohens in Penang Jail on Sunday. “She’s back to what she was earlier. Laughing and joking and so forth. She’s different now. She has come out of it... she’s regained her sense of humour.” Mr Singh said he expected the Kuala Lumpur Supreme Court to hear the appeals against Cohen’s death sentence and her son Aaron’s life sentence in February or March next year.
