Merino wools gain ground
PA Wellington Crossbred and Halfbred prices eased on the back of the stronger New Zealand dollar at yesterday’s Dunedin wool sale, but Merino wools gained ground on the previous Christchurch-Timaru sale. The Wool Board bid on 32 per cent of the offering and bought 12 per cent or 1450 bales (171 clean tonnes). The continued strengthening of the ddliar still remains the main s factor affecting market levels. It strengthened ’ from U&64.45C to U566.71C (3.5 per cent) since the last
combined sale at Wellington and Christchurch on September 24. The offering of 2971 clean tonnes (25,178 bales) was made up of 27 per cent Halfbred fleece, 25 per cent crossbred fleece, 11 per cent crossbred second shear, and 9 per cent Merino fleece. The next sale will be a combined Wellington and Christchurch fixture on October 15 where 4366 clean tonnes (37,000 > bales) will be offered.
