BEST BETS
FRIDAY Te Awamutu PLACID LYNAR (Raes 2) blk c, 3 yrs, by Vance Hanover—Berima; trained at Pukekohe by H. Purdon. Brother to the talented Placid Victor which returned an enormous effort to finish second in his debut at Auckland last week. With average luck in the running should win this. Timaru MULLICK (Racu 7), B c, 3 yrs, by Three Legs—Adaway; trained at Orari by R. Pankhurst Obvious chance after two recent wins, the latest over the same distance at Riccarton last week. SATURDAY Auckland CLEARLANE (Racu 7) Hr g, 4 yrs, by Sound ReasonStar Lisa; trained at Frankton by W. F. Morris. Close second on this course last Saturday. Promising type which should prove too strong for his rivals. Banks Peninsula VESPASIA (Racu 10) B m, 4 yrs, by Lord Module—Fair . Alda, trained at Hinds by P. D. Young. Impressive debut winner at Addington last month and backed up that with a gritty fourth at Ashburton without much luck in the running. Top prospect. Forbury Park MOUNT BAMSON (Race 8) b g, 4 yrs, by Transport Chip—Steve’s Chance; trained at Edendale by A. D. Milne. Performed consistently well in three starts so far this season and from handy draw should beat this field. Masterton IF EVER (Race 7) Brc, 3 yrs; by Foxbay—Umalti; trained at Bulls by M. Andrews. Impressive winner at Hastings last month and despite rise in class looks capable, at the weights, of a repeat effort. Winton JEB MAI (Race 3) Ch f, 2 yrs, by Zephyr Palace— Micontessa; trained at Wingatul by H. Anderton. Smart daughter of a firstseason sire which showed ability with easy trials win last month. Should have too much speed and experience for her opponents.
