Boxing switch
NZPA-Reuter London Britain’s Lloyd Honeyghan has a new opponent, the Mexican, Jorge Vaca, for the defence of his World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation welterweight titles at Wembley on October 28. The switch was announced yesterday by the British promoters, Mike Barrett and Mickey Duff, who have cancelled the invitation to Honeyghan’s original opponent, the American, Bobby Joe Young, because of the demands of boxing politics. The fight will take place in the week of the W.B.C.’s congress in London, and Barrett said, “Young is not ranked by
the W.8.C., and we appreciated that an 1.8. F. title fight on the same night as the convention climax would helve been a great embarrassment to the W.B.C. president Jose Suleiman. "We have had the backing of the 1.8. F., who understand the situation, as does the Young camp. He will get his chance to fight Lloyd later, perhaps in December?’ . The rearranged contest will be under W.B.C. rules over 12 rounds, although it will still be recognised by the 1.8. F. as a title defence; ' ' Vaca, fourth in the W.B.C. rankings, has won 37 of his 43 fights, 29 of them inside the distance, lost five and drawn One.
