Postbank charges

Sir,—Today at Postbank I withdrew money by four cheques from the school committee bonus account to pay four accounts. To my surprise I was charged a fee of $6 to issue these cheques — i.e. $2 a cheque after the first which was free. The Gilbertian situation seems to be that if I had gone in for the four cheques on four separate days I would have been charged nothing. It would seem that the services we

are offered by Postbank do, in fact, have to be paid fpr. I am incensed that the school funds are being eroded by such fees. Surely school funds are hard enough to come by without charges like these. The school bonus account must be kept at Postbank because of Education Board regulations. Therefore, it seems ironic that some of the money granted by Postbank in recognition of time spent by school staff in entering' deposits, etc., in children’s School Postbank books has to be spent on cheque-handling fees at Postbank. Does anyone out there feel that life in New Zealand is becoming too complicated? — Yours, etc., JOHN M. PARK, Principal, Homebush School. October 5,1987.
