Cricket N.Z. batsmen shine
NZPA-Reuter Hyderabad Martin Crowe, recovered from influenza, scored 45 with a six and seven fours in a sevenwicket New Zealand victory against Karnataka in Hyderabad yesterday. In an impressive performance four days before its first World Cup match, New Zealand made 108 for three in 214 overs after bowling
out the state team for 187 in 42.5 overs. ; Rain interrupted the New Zealand innings soon after it started and the team then lost Phil Horne cheaply to a ball that kept low. But John Wright, whose 44 contained four fours and a six, and Crowe, who hit three successive fours off the leftarm spinner, Jeshwant,
and lofted the former test bowler Raghuram Bhat over extra cover for six, saw off the danger with a stand of 82. Scores - Karnataka 187 all out in 424 overs (K' Jeshwant 48; J. Bracewell 3/24), New Zealand 188 for three in 21.3 bvers (M. Crowe 45, J. Wright 44). New Zealand won by seven wickets.
