New stand under construction

The Stewards’ stand at the Banks Peninsula Trotting Cub’s meeting at Motukarara on Saturday will be similar to the photograph shown above. The top building will house the photo-finish equipment, while directly below will be used for the judge and course commentator. Another portacom building was placed adjacent to these two yesterday for the members of the news media on
Saturday, while two more portacoms will be placed at the front of the ground floor to house the secretary and the stipendiary stewards. The rear of the new building is where the drivers* facilities will be located on Saturday. Workers will have the area boarded in with temporary lockers installed for their use. “We’re delighted with the progress,” said the Banks Peninsula president, Mr Jim Baker, yes-
terday. “It is all coming together very well and Williamson construction have excelled themselves. We have upset their building programme with these temporary provisions, but they still hope to have the stand completed before Christmas.” The club will be using the conventional photo finish camera on Saturday after the Invercargill agent, Mr Jim Rogers, intimated he would require the intended
Polaroid camera for a Southland meeting. “Williamson’s were able to come up with a darkroom for us on top,” said Mr Baker. The birdcage is still to be used pn Saturday and according to Mr Baker, the public will not be inconvenienced to any great extent. Three new jetbet terminals have been installed at the top of the public stand to accommodate the influx of stewards on the day.
