Johnston booked
NZPA-AAP Sydney Paul Sutherland, has booked Malcolm Johnston to ride Swift Cheval in the sAustls2,ooo Elders Mile (1600 m at Caulfield on Saturday. Johnston, who was suspended at Randwick on Monday, was granted a stay of proceedings to ride at Canterbury yesterday and will have to have an appeal upheld by the Australian Jockey Club committee on Friday evening before he can ride in the race.
AJC stewards put Johnston out until October 24 after they found him guilty of careless riding on the Sutherland-trained Ostensible in the AJC Metropolitan Handicap, (2600 m But Sutherland will have the Sydney jockey, Jim Cassidy, on standby should Johnston’s appeal be dismissed.
